Feel the hospitability of a local Acehnese family and visit interesting places like the Baiturrahman Mosque, which is one of the main attractions in Banda Aceh. It was build during the 16th century by our local hero Sultan Iskandar Muda as a center of religious knowledge. The Mosque has seven domes, four towers and 4.760 square meters of italian marble floor. It can accomodate up to 9.000 people. Other interesting spots in the city are the Tsunami Museum, the Mass Grave of Ule Lheue, the PLTD Apung Ship, the Fishing Boat on the roof of a local house, the Museum Aceh, the Kerkhof Cemetary for the Dutch soldiers and the RI 001 Seulawah Monument. You can also relax at one of our beautiful beaches Pantai Lampuuk, Pantai Lhoknga or Pantai Ujung Bartee or visit the sourrounding island Pulau Weh with its famous snorkeling and dive spots. Dton miss also the famous Mie Aceh, noodles cooked in an Acehnese style with a special flavour or Ayam Tangkap, a very popular cuisine in Banda Aceh with fried chicken and traditional herbs. Famous local snacks are Timphan (traditional cookies consisting of flour, eggs, jam or coconut wrapped in a young banana leaf), Bhoi (flour, sugar and coconut milk baked in a fire) and Keukarah (looks like a birds nest). Also very famous and tasty is our local coffee Aceh. Try it at one of the many 24 hour coffee shops in Banda Aceh. Culturally you can see a lot of traditional dances and ceremonies in Banda Aceh. Very famous are the Tari Likok Pulo, a dance created by a Arab in Aceh in 1949. The dance starts from a low tempo to a very fast one. Also the Rapai Geleng is very famous. Tambourines and islamic chantings accompany this dance. Others like Tari Saman and Tari Seudati are also worth to be seen. Enjoy the various dances.
You will live together wit me, Nurlinda Nurdin and my two sons. I am 44 years old and single parrent. My sons, Dimas and Teguh are 14 and 16 years old. They both still go to school and are very keen to help you out with your questions about Aceh and their daily life here. They can speak very well English. When the tsunami struck in December 2004 I lost my mother, two sisters and four of my cousins. My greater family lost in total over 100 people at this massive event which changed the face of Banda Aceh completely and led to a impressive reconstruction and rehabilitation process with the overwhelming help of so many national and international donors. I am also working as a journalist for a big radio station here in Banda Aceh. So I know a lot of people here and can provide you with a lot of informations. My house has about 250 square meters and has a big kitchen and a nice living room with old colonial style furniture. My rooms range from 9 square meters to 25 square meters. I and my two sons will do our best to make your stay here in Banda Aceh unforgetable.
